Artist statement
I'm an artist who likes to explore different mediums in art. My grandmother, who was a pharmacist, went to university at the age of 80 to study fine art, and in doing so, removed all excuses from the rest of us. She taught me to always put a smile in my laugh and to always be excited to learn new things. Art evolves, people evolve and so over time, I'm sure the pictures I draw and paint will change with my experiences. I am not a political artist. I know that there is a place for those people who seek to titillate, to shock, to question, and I admire those artists who push societal boundaries. That is not me. I love the beauty of art, the way it can transport you to a tranquil place under a tree beside a cool stream, or through an old farm gate, escaping from your urban surroundings. How a painting can set you free for a moment and make you remember the snapshots of life that delight you. It's not very avant garde, I know, but it's truthful. I hope there is a place left for my kind of art in the world. The kind of art that is happy in the moment and not seeking to change the world or expose idiosyncrasies.
